Church revitalisation
Assessment | Philosophy | Consultancies | Personal Peacemaking | Renewal Retreats
There is a desperate need for Australia’s churches to be brought to Biblical vitality. Where this is lacking, the Christian witness in the community is diminished resulting in all manner of social problems.
Assessment
To assess their vitality, Presbyterian churches in NSW participated in the 2006 National Church Life Survey. We encourage churches to undertake additional reviews of their effectiveness in ministry and to participate in the follow-up survey in 2011. We have also appreciated the insights of Natural Church Development and encourage the use of this material.
Assessment, though, is only a stepping stone towards the real goal of recovery.
Philosophy
We embrace the Biblical paradigm for church revitalisation: Remember – Repent – Recover. This paradigm is clearly evident in the “letters to the seven churches” in Revelation 2-3. It has been encapsulated in the church revitalisation ministry of the Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, Alabama, and is described in the book, From Embers to a Flame.

Consultancies
Church Consultancy is a service of the Ministry and Mission Committee aimed at supporting the local church. It involves a church’s leadership committing to work with trained consultants to develop achievable objectives for the benefit of that local church.
Church Consultancies are helping congregations in at least ten other denominations. As a result, they have become more healthy and are making a greater impact for the kingdom of God.
Church Consultancies provide an opportunity for healthy churches to ensure that they remain healthy, and for troubled churches to receive help. They are available to churches regardless of size, stage of growth, financial resources or location.
The Committee provides consultants on a subsidised cost-recovery basis. Click on the following links to see the:

Christians are commanded by God to live at peace, but that is such an elusive goal. Now, by the kind permission of Peacemaker Ministries in America, and PeaceWise in Australia, we have been permitted to present their seminar material explaining God’s heart for peace and what individuals can do in daily life to promote it. These seminars will be operated in various places across NSW during 2011. Dates and place will be publicised here as they become available.
The Ministry and Mission Committee highly commends the further training available through PeaceWise. In Sydney, in 2012, training will be provided on the following dates:
- Conflict Coaching – June 19-20
- Conflict Mediation – June 21-22
Please contact PeaceWise for further details of their August training programme.
Renewal Retreats
For over 15 years, the Ministry and Mission Committee has been promoting the operation of separate renewal retreat networks for ministers and for ministers’ wives.
